Wakenya Pamoja Sacco Society Limited (WPS) was started by Kisii Farmers Co-operative Union (KFCU), whose societies were originally the major shareholders, in 1976 as a Union Banking Section of KFCU and became autonomous in 1992 under the name Gusii Farmers Rural Sacco Society Limited (GRFS). The Society has, with time, increased its scope of membership to include all farmers, civil servants, pensioners, business people, and other institutions' employees within her areas of operation.
The Society's headquarters is located in Kisii town, Kahawa House Opp. Gudka Westend, overlooking Daraja Moja. Together with this, the Society has a branch network in Ogembo, Nyamaiya, Keroka, Nyamarambe, Marani, Magombo, Kebirigo, and Nyamache. It also has paypoints in Nyamusi, Tabaka, Kenyenya and Ikonge. Apart from the branches and paypoints, the Society also, operates over 300 mobile paypoints which bring its services closer to its members. In furtherance to bringing services closer to customers, the Society has also teamed up with Co-operative Bank, through the Sacco Link Card, to provide members with ATM Cards to ensure that they have access to their money at all times wherever they are.
The Society was formed and operates under the Co-operative Society's Act and Rules, and its By-Laws. This is however going to change as the Government of Kenya has introduced the Sacco Act that will now govern and regulate the operations of all Saccos.

Coffee and tea farmers are the founders of the Sacco.
